I'm off to the annual National Women's Studies Association conference today, for four days of listening to speakers, presenting my paper on Women's History Month, and most important, visiting with friends and colleagues.  I hear there's even shopping and books.  But probably no beads.

As always, I struggle with what to wear.  I'm a blue jeans girl, you see.  I just don't feel like myself in a dress or in dress pants.  But, I also want to look professional, because even though I haven't gained my PhD yet, I'm looking for that future job.
So, I'm going to keep the clothes neutral and wow with the jewelry.  Think this piece will make a memorable statement?  Even better, it makes me feel powerful when I wear it.  Which means it will be perfect to wear when I present.  My paper might be boring, but my jewelry won't be.  (For the record, I think my paper is fairly engaging.)

On Friday, there's a party for Ohio State scholars.  I'm excited to go to this, since it's been a few years since I've seen many of these people.
I think I'll wear my "Phenomenal Woman" necklace.  Again, this makes me feel powerful.  And creative.  I made it while I lived in Columbus.

I'm bringing lots of homework (I have a paper draft due right after I get home, with very little work accomplished on it.  Rough draft indeed).  I'm also bringing felted bracelets that need to be trimmed.  I figure when I'm sitting around visiting with friends at night, I can get these done.  Especially since I'm sending a big box of goodies to Vegas next week for a holiday sale.

So much to do.  So little time.  But I'm going to enjoy every moment.

  1. Good luck with your paper and all the networking. I have a strong feeling you will impress with or without the jewelry. However, with the jewelry you will amaze them in style :-)
